Configuration file Reference
A .conf file contains configuration settings in plain text. The extension is common on Unix systems, for example for services and daemons. Each program defines its own structure; comments frequently start with a number sign. Python projects and cross-platform tools also use the extension. A text editor can show and change the file.
A file extension is only a part of the file name. It does not give a guarantee about the format or the content of a file. But on Windows, the extension selects the program that opens the file.
