Windows troubleshooting package

A .diagpkg file is the manifest of a Windows troubleshooting package. The XML file describes a diagnostic: its identity, its questions, and the PowerShell scripts that detect and repair a problem. The Windows Troubleshooting Platform runs the package. Windows ships built-in packages in the Windows diagnostics directory. Vendors can create their own packages.

A file extension is only a part of the file name. It does not give a guarantee about the format or the content of a file. But on Windows, the extension selects the program that opens the file.
